Euro News: Charr vs. Browne, Dina Thorslund, Viktor Faust, More

Boxing Scene

WBO female bantamweight Dina Thorslund (18-0) defends the title February 25 in Holstebro (Denmark) against Argentinian Debora Anahi Lopez (20-1-1) on a TK Promotion show.

Thorsland’s trainer Thomas Madsen makes no secret that it’s been difficult to find an opponent willing to come to Denmark and challenge the undefeated champion, who in turn has been unable to get a big fight abroad against, for instance, Matchroom’s Ebanie Bridges, who holds the IBF title.

Benito Penna has passed away at the age of 82, reports Boxeringweb. Penna fought professionally from 1962 through 1976 and compiled a record of 35-19-1 and challenged twice for the Italian title and was around in a very good era for Italian heavyweights.

When the event set for December 17 in Dubai, headlined by former WBA ‘regular’ heavyweights Mahmood ‘Manuel’ Charr and Lucas Browne, was gone from BoxRec I sent Charr’s promoter Erol Ceylan an email.

The reply was fast and Ceylan confirmed that the show is off and that the promoter (Iconic Promotions) has gone into hiding.

Heavyweight Viktor Faust, who was scheduled to fight on the undercard, will now fight December 17 in Goeppingen on the show headlined by Firat Arslan. Faust will meet American Franklin Lawrence (21-3-2) who comes back after six years off.

EC Boxing will now promote Charr vs Browne and first tried to do the fight already on Friday (Dec 16), but promoter Erol Ceylan says now they will try and stage the fight next week. More to come.
