Krysta Rosado-Gloria Munguilla Added To Serrano-Meinke, To Be Fought At Four Three-Minute Rounds

Krystal Rosado is prepared to apply the movements of her mentor, manager and boxing idol to her own career.

The first-year pro will box four, three-minute rounds for her upcoming March 2 junior bantamweight bout versus Los Angeles’ Gloria Munguilla at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan. It will be part of a DAZN show headlined by Amanda Serrano, Rosado’s manager, who defends her lineal and unified featherweight championship versus IBF mandatory challenger Nina Meinke.

“Just like Amanda Serrano has done to elevate women’s boxing alongside men’s boxing, I want to carry that tradition,” Rosado said during a press conference held Thursday in San Juan to formally announce the event. “I want to show that we are just as worthy as the men in the sport.”

Serrano-Meinke will be contested over twelve, three-minute rounds as opposed to the traditional ten, two-minute rounds normally afforded women’s title fights. The same terms were applied to Serrano’s points win over Danila Ramos last October 27 in Orlando, Florida.

Rosado (2-0, 1KO) signed with Serrano (46-2-1, 30KOs) last summer and made her debut on a Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) show last August in Orlando, Florida. That bout as well as her October 27 appearance on Serrano’s undercard were both fought over four, two-minute rounds. Both came versus opponents who were 1-0 but who proved to be far inferior in skill to the 21-year-old from Carolina, P.R.

Munguilla (5-0, 2KOs) carries a glossier record, though it remains to be seen if she can hang with the former amateur standout. She agreed to the terms presented by Rosado, who wanted to provide a moment of her own for her first career fight on her home island.

“I am very excited to be here in my hometown, and fighting in front of my people who I know will support me,” stated Rosado. “I won’t be nervous. I will be anxious and enthusiastic. The work I’ve put in during training camp will keep me from being nervous.”
