Shakur Stevenson’s upcoming title defense agaisnt Artem Harutyunyan is now a doubleheader, as Mike Coppinger reports that O’Shaquie Foster will defend his WBC super featherweight title against Robson Conceicao in the July 6th co-feature.
After an absolutely terrific slugfest with “Rocky” Hernandez in his inaugural title defense last October, Foster (22-2, 12 KO) returned to his workmanlike ways with a competitive decision over Abraham Nova in February. The man’s just a solid, skilled fighter, a very capable boxer with the will and mean streak to battle through adversity.
Speaking of adversity, Conceicao (18-2-1, 9 KO) enters his fourth title shot of the last three years at 0-2-1 in such bouts. Admittedly, that’s worse on paper than in reality; the former gold medalist gave Oscar Valdez a very tough out in 2021, understandably lost to Shakur Stevenson two fights later, then showed impressive grit to claw out a draw with Emanuel Navarrete last November.
All I’m saying is that I’m way more okay with Conceicao getting another crack than Joet Gonzalez.
