Step aside, Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury, it’s time for a real heavyweight fight. Matchroom announced today that cult heroes Johnny Fisher and Alen Babic will meet atop a July 6th NXTGEN show at London’s Copper Box Arena.
“I have no words other than I am locked in and ready for the hardest fight of my life,” said Fisher.
“Johnny and his dad have definitely over-ordered this time in picking me for his next fight……I am going to enjoy teaching this POSH! boy some very Savage lessons,” said Babic. “I look forward to the fight but no university education can give Johnny the appetite for what’s coming his way!”
“The Romford Bull” (11-0, 10 KO) smashed his way through the bottom rungs of Britain’s domestic scene before tearing up Dmytro Bezus in last February’s US debut. This represents a massive step up in class for the 25-year-old, who’s yet to face any of BoxRec’s top 250 heavyweights.
Babic (12-1, 11 KO) enjoyed a similar arc, albeit with slightly better competition, before his own step up saw him smashed in a round by Lukasz Rozanski. He spent the next year or so on the sidelines, then returned to heavyweight to batter Steve Robinson on Sky’s Wardley vs Clarke show last March.
This will only be “Sweet Science” in the Mythbusters sense, but I’m here for it. I’ll never say no to cartoonish violence while this heart of mine still beats.
