‘It could be a good idea’: Arum reacts to notion of Top Rank vs Golden Boy card

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum spent a couple minutes chatting with Fight Hype about his reaction to Oscar De La Hoya’s interest in a Top Rank vs Golden Boy card and his prediction for Adrien Broner vs Blair Cobbs which is scheduled for tonight on Triller. Check out some of what he had to say below.

Arum on his thoughts on a Golden Boy vs Top Rank card after the recent Matchroom vs Queensbury event

“If it was Oscar and me in the ring it would be a no contest,” Arum joked. “Again, it depends on who the fighters are and who the fights are. It could be a good idea if the pairings are really interesting. But it’s the fighters that make the show and the fights that interest the people, not the fact that it’s Oscar’s fighters against our fighters. I think that helps but it’s sort of a little bit irrelevant.

“With all due respect (Matchroom vs Queensbury) had nothing to do with Warren against Hearn but there were five good fights and that made the show. I mean, every fight was I thought interesting, was well-matched. The fact that five fighters who were Queensbury defeated five fighters who were designated Matchroom I think was sort of irrelevant. But we had five good fights and that was important.”

On his thoughts on tonight’s fight between Adrien Broner and Blair Cobbs

“I don’t know. I mean, Adrien Broner was at one point a really solid fighter, a great, great prospect. I thought he would be one of the biggest stars in boxing. And then he let his career go down the drain. So I don’t know what Adrien Broner has left.

“And Cobbs, I don’t know what he ever had. So it’s hard to predict who’s going to win that fight.”
