Azeez vs Edmondson joins Azim vs Davies on Oct. 19

The supporting cast is coming together for next month’s Adam Azim vs Ohara Davies show, as Boxxer announced today that Dan Azeez will meet Lewis Edmondson in the light heavyweight co-feature.

Edmondson (9-0, 3 KO) will be taking a significant step up in class, having just won his first eight-rounder over Joel McIntyre in May. That said, Azeez’s (20-1-1, 13 KO) stock is at an all-time low. Losing to arguably the country’s best light heavyweight in Joshua Buatsi is one thing, but he looked downright atrocious against the unheralded Hrvoje Sep, barely escaping with an eight-round draw in June.

“Lewie is a good, skilful, young fighter,” said Azeez of the fight on the undercard of Adam Azim-Ohara Davies. “He whooped me as an amateur and now it’s time to return the favour.”

“I respect Dan as a fighter,” said the undefeated Edmondson. “He’s very experienced. He’s been there numerous times. We know each other well.

“We fought as amateurs and sparred in the early days of my pro career. I’m expecting a tough and rough fight. What you see is what you get with Dan. I respect him as a person but it’s the fight game and it’s time to announce myself on the big stage. He’s had his time and it’s mine now.”

Another interesting bit of undercard action pits Michael McKinson (26-1, 4 KO) against fellow welterweight Tulani Mbenge (20-2, 15 KO). McKinson has been on a recovery tour since falling to Vergil Ortiz Jr two years back while Mbenge is 5-1 in his last six, the lone loss a majority decision to world-ranked Soulemane Cissokho.
