UK boxing to resume in February, says BBBofC

According to a statement just released by the British Boxing Board of Control, the commission will allow for boxing activities to resume in the middle of next month after a spike in COVID cases forced a temporary suspension of all cards planned for January.

“The British Boxing Board of Control will be resuming boxing tournaments under its jurisdiction in the middle of February.”

The biggest fight that was immediately impacted by the recent boxing shutdown had been a European title fight between Josh Kelly and David Avanesyan, which was originally scheduled for Jan. 30. A rescheduled date is still being sorted out.

Kelly, 25, has been out of action for over a year, last outpointing Wiston Campos in December 2019. Avanesyan, 32, also hasn’t fought since December 2019, when he knocked out Jose del Rio in the opening round. Both Kelly and Avaneysan have been circling one another for some time now, so are both likely anxious to get the bout underway.
