Multi-division world champion, Humberto “Zorrita” Soto has registered as a candidate for the National Regeneration Movement party to become the Mayor of Ahome.

“This give me the opportunity to do something for my beloved Los Mochis and do it with all the humility in the world,” Soto stated.

Months before he had expressed his intention to be a candidate for Mayor, and although he had not clarified which party he would do it for, the Party of the Democratic Revolution had announced that it had offered him the candidacy.

Soto was alderman of the Ahomense Council for the National Action Party during the period 2011-2013, and chaired the Sports Commission.

Soto (69-10-2, 37 KOs) last fought in April of 2019, when he was knocked out in six rounds, in a junior middleweight contest, by two-division champion Jessie Vargas. Known for his durable chin, it was only the second time since 2000 where the Mexican veteran suffered a loss inside the distance.

Two months earlier, Soto pulled off a big upset when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over former world champion Brandon Rios.

During his career, Soto captured world titles at super featherweight and lightweight.

He had numerous key wins, over tough fighters like Jesus Chavez, David Diaz, Urbano Antillon, Rocky Juarez, John Molina and others.
