Tanajara out, Fierro in for Mar. 18 RIng City main event

Fighting

There will be a new headlining fight for the Ring City USA card scheduled for March 18th. After Hector Tanajara had to withdraw for his scheduled fight due to illness, Angel Fierro will now be in the main event against Alberto Machado in a scheduled 10-round lightweight fight, which will air live on NBC Sports Network starting at 9 p.m. ET. The show will also stream live on the NBC Sports app.

Machado (22-2, 18 KOs) last fought in December 2019, stopping Luis Porozo in two rounds. That was clearly a step down in competition after Machado was twice knocked out by Andrew Cancio that same year, losing his WBA junior lightweight title.

Meanwhile Fierro (17-1-1, 13 KOs) most recently won by knockout against Alexis Reyes this past October, but has almost exclusively faced low levels of opposition in Mexico since he turned professional in 2015.

Unless Machado is completely shot, this is likely a fight he should be able to win, especially with a new opponent stepping in late. That said, Machado might’ve had a lot taken out of him in those consecutive stoppage losses to Cancio. We’ll just have to wait to evaluate his current form this weekend.
