Ismael Salas Can’t Believe Bryan Perez Wasn’t DQ’d vs. Felix Valera

Ismael Salas is upset at the way the Felix “Mangu” Valera-Bryan Perez fight was recently handled in the Dominican Republic.

Pérez (14-1) was awarded the unanimous decision victory over Valera (18-4) in a rematch of their 2018 showdown that Valera won by unanimous decision. The fight was part of a Shuan Boxing card that took place in Santo Domingo. The final scores were 95-91 and 94-92 twice.

Salas was in Valera’s corner and believes that the referee Smailyn Valdez did a poor job in officiating the fight. Valera appeared to score a knockdown of his own but it ended up being counted a slip by Valdez.

“I don’t know how the referee didn’t take any points away or disqualify Pérez. He spit out his mouthpiece multiple times and was hitting after the break,” Salas told BoxingScene.com.

There was a lot on the line on March 12th. The fight was sanctioned by both the WBA and WBC with the winner receiving a ranking by both sanctioning bodies. At the very least Salas hopes that one of the organizations will order a rubber match.

With the victory, Pérez has now won 3 fights in a row since his loss to Valera. Mangú on the other hand, has dropped back to back bouts. His previous fight was a disqualification loss to Vyacheslav Shabranskyy in September, 2019.

In other action on the card, former world title challenger Carlos “Caballo Bronco’ Adames picked up a 6th round knockout victory over Bryan Medina. It was his first fight since attempting to capture the vacant WBO super welterweight title against Patrick Texeira in November, 2019.
