Super featherweight Johansen Alvarez, who is the nephew of four division world champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, will make his professional debut in June, according to well known manager and trainer Jose Reynoso.

“He is a cheerful boxing boy, with good movement from the waist and good counterattacks; He also hits hard,” Reynoso told Efe after the presentation of the 17-year-old who won 24 fights as an amateur.

Reynoso explained that the rookie, son of Gonzalo Alvarez, older brother of Canelo, has prepared well and although he does not know his opponent, he is mentally prepared to have a good pro debut.

“He is disciplined and respectful of his profession; he learns day by day and we are optimistic,” Reynoso said.

Johansen acknowledged that being in the family of the man that many consider to be the best boxer in the sport is a big responsibility, but he wants to write his own story without comparing himself to his uncle.

“The last name adds a lot of weighs, but I take it with responsibility,” Johansen said.

Although he outlines his style, based on technique and fine boxing but with a good punch, Johansen assured that he was prepared to adapt to any type of opponent.

“I am very excited, motivated, I have worked much harder than I did in amateur boxing because the professional ranks is something greater,” Johansen revealed.

Canelo, with 55 wins, 37 by way of knockout, with one loss and two draws, heads up a family dynasty of boxers, which allowed Johansen to grow in a large environment connected to boxing.

“As a child I liked soccer because of my mother who played in the third division, I also practiced basketball and American football, but what caught my attention was boxing and it is what I want to do all my life,” Johansen concluded.
