Boxing TV schedule for June 19, 2021

Fighting

FITE TV, 3:30 pm ET, Lopez-Kambosos prelims. If you’re fired up to watch several hours of prelim action, video packages, and maybe some low-budget concerts or something, this is the place to be. It’ll be free on FITE. There are some good names and prospects in action on this part of the show, mind you. Charles Conwell faces Mark DeLuca, Zhang Zhilei takes on Daniel Martz, veteran welterweight Ray Robinson is in action, and prospects Aaron Aponte and Haven Brady Jr will fight. There might be more. Otherwise this start time needs to be bumped ahead about two hours, or you’re going to see a loOoOooOoOOoOoOoOot of promotional material. Usually I watch prelims. These, I’m not, as I’ll be busy with…

DAZN, 3:30 pm ET, Jaime Munguia vs Kamil Szeremeta. This one’s starting early, in part because having a European B-side means they can max the audience overseas, in part because otherwise this show gets trampled underfoot on a ridiculously, stupidly busy Saturday night. As they’ve set it up, DAZN’s main event may overlap with the early stages of other cards, but will wrap well before the main events on the other shows, and the main events are all most people care about. Undercard on DAZN will feature Bektemir Melikuziev vs Gabriel Rosado, Ibeth Zamora defending the WBC flyweight title against Marlen Esparza, and Blair Cobbs vs Brad Solomon. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.

ESPN+, 7:30 pm ET, Inoue-Dasmarinas prelims. If you’ve seen Top Rank prelims by now, you know about what to expect. You’re going to see people you’ve seen on them before, and that includes the B-side opponents for the prospects being showcased. Top Rank prelims have become their own little boxing ecosystem.

PPV (Click to Buy!), 9:00 pm ET, Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr. Lopez finally makes his return after his huge win over Vasiliy Lomachenko, facing IBF mandatory challenger Kambosos in a Triller Fight Club main event. The undercard has Franchon Crews-Dezurn vs Elin Cederroos for the undisputed championship at 168, Michael Hunter vs Mike Wilson in (for no good reason) a WBA heavyweight eliminator, and Andy Vences vs Jono Carroll. There have been a lot of crap PPV undercards for a long time now. Nobody’s giving Kambosos much of a shot, but I do expect him to go out on his shield if he’s going. He’s a brave fighter. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.

Showtime, 9:00 pm ET, Jermall Charlo vs Juan Macias Montiel. Charlo defends his WBC middleweight title against Montiel in what is expected to be a mismatch. The undercard might be more eventful. Isaac Cruz, an exciting but flawed lightweight, faces rugged veteran Francisco Vargas, while Angelo Leo and Aaron Alameda meet in what could be a very intriguing matchup at 122. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.

PPV (Click to Buy!), 9:00 pm ET, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Anderson Silva. The main event here is actually an exhibition between Julio Cesar Chavez Sr and Hector Camacho Jr, but for the vast majority of very online people the draw is Junior against a true, bona fide MMA and UFC legend. TO BE CLEAR: Chavez-Silva is a sanctioned fight, not an exhibition. Full, normal boxing rules apply. Omar Chavez will fight one of Canelo’s brothers, too. We won’t have live coverage — we simply do not have enough people, and we’d have to otherwise take a crap or dump on some world title fight, which I’d do for a Paul brother but not for Junior Chavez, whatever mysterious ailment he comes up with this time, and a 200-year-old Spider Silva. But we’ll have an eye on things.

ESPN+ and ESPN, 10:00 pm ET, Naoya Inoue vs Michael Dasmarinas. In a recurring theme for the night’s main events, we’ve got a star champ against a guy nobody thinks has a hope in hell of winning. Dasmarinas is another IBF mandatory challenger, and, well — I mean. His nickname is “Hot and Spicy,” which is cool. Mikaela Mayer will defend her 130 lb title here against Erica Farias, too. Farias is a solid vet but Mayer figures to be way too much for her. Bad Left Hook will have live coverage.
