WBC super featherweight champion Oscar Valdez’s partnership with Top Rank looks like it’ll continue for some time, as he’s “signed a new multi-fight promotional agreement” following his career-best win over Miguel Berchelt earlier this year.

Valdez said, “I am proud to be part of the Top Rank family. I want to thank Bob Arum and Todd duBoef for their confidence in my abilities. I will not let them down. I also want to thank my manager, Frank Espinoza, for securing a great deal for me. This is a wonderful moment in my career, and I’m grateful to God for my blessings.”

“It’s a pleasure to promote a young athlete like Oscar Valdez. He is a true gentleman who is grateful for the help we’ve provided, and he works collaboratively with the company for the mutual benefit of both parties,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “I have been very fond of Oscar from the moment we signed him, and I am proud of everything he has accomplished. I would like to recognize Frank Espinoza, a fantastic manager who has been integral in helping Oscar reach this point.”

Valdez’s (29-0, 23 KO) February upset of “El Alacran” remains a frontrunner for “Knockout of the Year” and thoroughly revitalized a career left floundering after several underwhelming performances. With Valdez, WBO champion Jamel Herring, and former featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson all fighting under the Top Rank banner, the time appeared nigh for some intramural fun. Instead, Valdez appears to be closing in on a fight with Olympic gold medalist turned underwhelming pro Robson Conceicao later this year.

He’s still just 30, though, so there’s still time for Top Rank to get it together.
