Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya took to social media on the late night over the weekend, promising all his fans a big news announcement. I won’t lie to you all here, Oscar was, let’s say, ‘feeling good’ during the video, and between many moments of cringe he managed to send his well-wishes to the recently retired Manny Pacquiao before saying he’ll be back to fight on Cinco de Mayo. Here’s how it all began…
“I have a big announcement, okay” De La Hoya said. Huge announcement. Huge! I know it’s 1 o’clock (am), whatever, whatever…”
De La Hoya would, however, quickly get sidetracked from his huge announcement by the comments section on IG live, and would instead
turn his attention to the recent retirement announcement of Manny Pacquiao.
“Manny Pacquiao, when I decided to fight you, okay, I had no idea how special you are. When you were throwing punches and never getting tired and displaying a special talent, that night I knew that you were gonna be somebody that is different, okay. And that difference puts you in a category of elite fighters like Muhammad Ali, like Sugar Ray Leonard, like Floyd Mayweather, like myself.
“We’re a few, so Manny Pacquiao, I appreciate your career and I loved your career and thank you. And I wish you the very best in your life after boxing. Go get the presidency because you deserve it because you have a good heart and you will do incredibly well for the Filipino country. So love you, Manny.”
De La Hoya would then take a moment to clarify his physical state at the moment.
“Well, just so you know, I’m a little loaded. I mean, what’s wrong with that? I’ve had a few drinks, what?! Let’s just be real here. It’s 1 o’clock, okay, a couple beers, so what?…do you guys want to see me dance?”
Oscar then remembered his big news announcement that he strayed from earlier…
“Wait, hold on, I have the big news that I’m gonna unveil,” De La Hoya continued. “I have big, freakin’ crazy news, okay. So I am gonna fight again. COVID did freakin’ kick my ass. I was feeling the best in a long time, physically, mentally, so Cinco de Mayo, I’m gonna fight again. And the opponent, I’m gonna work on. But it’s gonna be a boxer and the top of the top elite. If anybody followed my career here, you always know that I fuckin’ fought the best. That’s all I have to say. And who’s the best? Floyd Mayweather.”
Moments later De La Hoya would be propositioned to be some lucky woman’s baby daddy.
“You know what, I would try and we would, but I’m like cut, so I can’t. What is that called, vasectomy? Yeah, anyway, you know why I can’t? Because I have a woman that is my life and I’m out of the stratosphere forever.”
Quickly transitioning back to actual boxing topics, De La Hoya would give his take on this weekend’s third heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
“You know what, I love freakin’ Wilder — I love you Wilder, I do — but fuckin’ Fury, man, he’s special. He moves like a lightweight.”
I would just like to say that we at BLH send our thoughts and prayers to De La Hoya.
