David Avanesyan Hopes To Return on March 26, as Part of Fury Undercard

According to Allboxing.ru, a prominent Russian boxing outlet, world-rated welterweight and European 147-pound champion, David Avanesyan (28-3-1, 16 KOs), is hoping to return to the ring on March 26 in Manchester, England.

The date of March 26 is the target date for the next defense of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who last October scored a knockout of Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight. One potential opponent for Fury is mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.

Avanesyan and Fury share the same promoter in Frank Warren.

“My next fight is pre-planned for March 26 in Manchester as a part of the show, which will feature Tyson Fury in the main event. I have already been to the venue. The stadium’s capacity is over 25K spectators, and I think it’ll be fully loaded on the date of the fight”, said Avanesyan, a Russia-born fighter of Armenian heritage, who also held the WBA Interim welterweight title for a short time between his win over ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley and a close loss to Lamont Peterson.

However, there has been no official announcement regarding Fury’s next fight – and a WBC mandated purse bid, for the fight with Whyte, is still scheduled to take place this week.

WBC #2, IBF #5, WBO #8 and WBA #12 ranked Avanesyan hit the lowest point of his career in February 2018, when he was stopped by Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

The intelligent boxer-puncher bounced back hugely in 2019, stopping previously undefeated power banger Kerman Lejarraga (27-0 and 27-1) twice before blitzing veteran Spaniard Jose del Rio (29-8-1) in less than a round. He followed it up in 2021 with a couple of stoppages over British fighters – namely, 10-0-1 Josh Kelly and 23-1-1 Liam Taylor. All of those wins were scored on the road.
