Hector Garcia is Very Confident That He Will Upset Colbert

Boxing Scene

Hector Luis Garcia (14-0) will have the opportunity of a lifetime when he takes on Chris Colbert (16-0) on Saturday night in Las Vegas. At stake will be Colbert’s interim WBA super featherweight title.  The fight will headline a Showtime tripleheader.

Colbert was originally scheduled to face Venezuela’s Roger Gutierrez in a bout that was ordered by the WBA in an effort to consolidate their overabundance of titles. Gutierrez holds the “regular” WBA super featherweight strap. They were slated to square off for the super version of the title that Gervonta Davis vacated when he decided to campaign full time in the lightweight division. The bout was delayed when Gutierrez tested positive for COVID-19.

Garcia is a sizable underdog going into the fight but is very confident that he will pull off the upset. The 2016 Olympian is a gym rat who trains under the guidance of world class trainer Ismael Salas in Las Vegas.

“The way I see it is that it’s not the same to look at someone from outside of the ring as it is to face them inside the ring. In this sport no one is indispensable. Anything is possible,”  Garcia told BoxingScene.com.

“Not everyone gets a chance to fight for a title and now I am getting my turn. I am going to give the best of me. I have a great team and we had a great camp. We were already training very hard to be in peak condition on fight night when I got the call to fight Colbert. I am very motivated and have a lot of faith in myself.”

Garcia was last in action in December when he defeated Isaac Avelar by unanimous decision.

Colbert captured his interim title in January, 2020 when he outpointed Jezzrel Corrales.
