Chris Eubank Jr. Calls Out Golovkin: Come Back Down To 160 To Fight Me

Boxing Scene

Minutes after Gennadiy Golovkin suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Canelo Alvarez in an undisputed super middleweight title fight to put an end to their trilogy, Chris Eubank Jr. seized the moment to call out the Kazakh KO artist.

“GGG you had a great run. Come back down to middleweight and let’s fight for those belts you still have in December or just pass them over and I’ll look after them for the next couple of years while you enjoy retirement … you earned it champ,” Eubank Jr. wrote on Twitter.

Eubank Jr. and Golovkin were supposed to fight in 2016 in the United Kingdom but the bout never materialized.

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn said at the time that Chris Eubank Sr.’s “crazy demands” caused the deal to fall through, and thus, Eubank Jr. missed out on a nearly $3 million purse.

Triple G instead went on to fight and knock out Kell Brook in the UK.

The 33-year-old Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KOs) has persisted in calling out Golovkin in recent years.

Now that the WBA, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) is no longer tied to DAZN, fewer obstacles could be in the way of a potential fight with the second-generation star.

Golovkin, who turned 40 years old in April, still plans on resuming his career and looking for big-time fights.

Eubank Jr. will fight Conor Benn in a 157-pound catchweight bout on Oct. 8.
